February is in full swing, and love is in the air! Valentine’s Day can be a very polarizing holiday. But with the inception of Galentine’s Day, people are learning that love comes in all forms. Whether or not you think Valentine’s is a fake holiday made up by card companies, I think you can get behind a good old Galentine’s themed, girl power and snack filled, binge-watching marathon.
First things first. What’s Galentine’s Day, you ask?
If you aren’t familiar with Galentine’s Day, it’s celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day and it’s all about ladies celebrating ladies.
One of my favorite things to do to celebrate any holiday or special event (or a made up special event, as I’m prone to do ;)) is to binge watch movies and shows that put me in the spirit. I may also make sure I have the best themed snacks.
So break out the popcorn and conversation hearts, make yourself a Cherry Beergarita, and get ready to veg out on the couch for your Galentine’s Day binge sesh. Check out these shows you can stream on Netflix or Hulu that embody the spirit of Galentine’s Day. Plus I’ll give you the perfect food pairing so you can enter full couch potato status.
10 Best Bingeworthy Shows to Celebrate Galentine’s Day
1. The Gilmore Girls
The Show
I’m not going to assume you’re already into the Gilmore Girls. Mostly because I didn’t even watch this series until I binge watched the entire series on Netflix a couple of years ago. In case you were stuck under a rock like me, Gilmore Girls follows the everyday antics, and terrible eating habits of the quintessential mother/daughter duo, Lorelai, and Rory Gilmore. They’re quick-witted, fast talking, and always fueled by caffeine.
The Food
Make sure to watch with a ton of coffee (bonus if it’s in a Luke’s coffee mug). Order up plenty of takeout junk food – get the Chinese and Pizza delivery on speed dial, and make sure you’re stocked up on Pop-Tarts, cause it’s gonna be a long night.
2. The Mindy Project
The Show
The Mindy Project follows the life of Dr. Mindy Lahiri, a love and fashion obsessed OB/GYN living in New York City. She’s funny (even though you’re usually laughing at her character than with her), ambitious, and independent (even though the show follows her many romantic conquests and obsession with RomComs).
A huge bonus: the supporting cast is seriously so freaking funny, and the show wouldn’t be the same without them! Another bonus: all of Mindy’s clothing is designed by Salvador Perez, and is as bright and bold as her personality.
The Food
Food is a common theme on The Mindy Project, and Mindy is obsessed with pretty much all it (I mean, her warrior name is Beyonce Pad Thai). Some of Mindy’s favs mentioned on the show are Sour Straws, chicken wings, cake, ice cream bars, Bagel Bites, and McDonald’s. Pace yourself, you don’t want to get a stomach ache.
3. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
The Show
Through a bizarre turn of events, Kimmy is a “mole woman” who survived being held captive underground by a cult leader for a large amount of her formative years. After she’s rescued, she heads to NYC to live her own life. She’s a weird combination of determined and naive. Plus her roommate Titus will leave you in stitches!
The Food
Kimmy’s a big fan of candy for dinner, so make sure you have your favorites nearby. Whatever else you decide to snack on, just make sure you wash it all down with a glass (or two) of Pinot Noir.
4. AHS: Coven
The Show
The anthology series’ 3rd season “Coven” features a team of young women who live in a Coven in New Orleans. After the Salem witch trials of the past, their kind is slowing dying off and they’re sent to the boarding type school to learn survival. Each girl has a special skill that sets her apart from the other witches.
This season features an all-star cast of amazing actresses in their prime. Classics like Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett, and newer actresses that hold their own against them – Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe being my personal favorites.
The Food
Cajun themed food best fits this show because of its New Orleans setting. Nosh on jambalaya, muffaleta or po boy sandwiches and finish it off with beignets.
5. OITNB
The Show
Orange is the New Black follows Piper and her fellow inmates as she serves time in prison for being a drug mule. It’s funny, gritty, and full of a range of emotions. OITNB celebrates that women (and criminals) come in different shapes, forms and backgrounds.
The Food
Obviously, you don’t want to eat prison slop while you’re vegging out. Funfetti cake with chocolate frosting (in a nod to Vee using it as currency to get what she wants) is your best bet.
6. GLOW
The Show
Ruth is an aspiring actress whose tired of auditioning for (and not getting) roles like “woman in the background #1”. She lands the opportunity for a new concept in entertainment – a women’s wrestling league called GLOW (the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling). Expect neon leotards, a quirky cast of characters, and tons of girl power.
The Food
Break out some 80’s favorites like Sour Patch Kids, Pudding Pops, Cool Ranch Doritos and Tab soda (Diet Coke will suffice).
7. Pretty Little Liars
The Show
Oh boy. My guilty pleasure. After the disappearance of their friend, four high school girls start receiving menacing and threatening text messages from an unknown person who calls them self “A”. The girls work to solve who their antagonist is without going to their parents or authorities, of course. It’s far-fetched, dramatic, and freaking good entertainment.
The Food
Dirt cake, (Hershey’s) Kisses, popcorn, and of course, plenty of coffee.
8. Crazy Ex Girlfriend
The Show
This is seriously one of my favorite shows on TV right now. Rebecca Bunch leaves a cushy job on the east coast to follow an ex-boyfriend who lives in West Covina, CA. She’ll do anything to get back in his life. It sounds a little Fatal Attraction, but its such a funny show (even the title is tongue in cheek – in the season 1 theme song, they make sure to let you know that crazy ex-girlfriend is a “sexist term.” Oh, and it’s sprinkled with musical dance numbers. What more could a girl want?
The Food
In a nod to the characters frequently patronizing Sugar Face, make sure to chow down on some donuts. If you’re craving something more savory, whip up a batch of chili cheese fries like they often eat at Home Base.
9. The Golden Girls
The Show
No Galentine’s binge session would be complete without everyone’s favorite gang of sassy seniors. Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia are #girlsquadgoals.
The Food
The ladies love to eat. But if you eat anything while watching the gang, it’s gotta be cheesecake.
10. Parks and Recreation
The Show
This list wouldn’t be complete without the ever positive and resourceful Leslie Knope and her efforts to make her community better. Plus she loves Galentine’s Day!
The Food
Come on, you know you have to tackle a huge stack of waffles in honor of Leslie’s favorite food. Throw in some bacon in honor of Ron for good measure.

Lol…. My most recent binge watch(a full day) was Friends LAST year! Also we have had many episodes of Blue Bloods watching many evenings! Prior to that was Criminal Minds on vacation some years back. 🤨 I want to binge watch THIS IS US but haven’t made a plan yet in how to accomplish that. Sadly, I have only seen one episode so far! Love your blog Daire! 😘
